Endorsable

It has been SO long since I saw a movie I really enjoyed - one that I felt good about recommending to others - that I thought I'd better not let the chance pass to endorse one.

We saw The Blind Side over Thanksgiving weekend.  I don't really know what to say about it except that it's a remarkable story.  Makes-me-want-to-be-a-better-person remarkable.  The fact that it made me laugh wasn't a bad thing either.  Tim McGraw was kind of a nice surprise - I had braced myself for him to be a terrible actor, but he wasn't bad at all.  I've always been a Sandra Bullock fan but even Will, who doesn't care for her much, though she was great in this film.

We don't see a ton of movies in the theatre, mostly because it's pretty rare that I want to see a film badly enough to pay for the tickets.  But this one is definitely worth the price of admission.  Go see it.  Really.  Go.

We also took the girls to see The Princess and the Frog this past weekend.  (No really, we don't go to the movies very often.  Honest.)  The girls liked it.  I liked it.  I had heard talk of it being up there with Beauty and the Beast or The Little Mermaid.  I think it fell short of that.  But it was certainly cute.  I kept looking for Disney's hidden agenda that they always seem to try and promote in their movies, but I didn't really notice one.  The message is basically "dream big, work hard, and keep sight of what's most important."  And I really can't disagree with that.

Jacey loved the music, Londyn loved . . . well mostly she loved the popcorn but she also loved Princess Tiana.   I mostly loved the fact that they loved us for taking them.  The villain scenes were a little scary for Londyn - she watched them through her fingers.  Jacey didn't seem to mind them though.

So there you go.  Cynthia's official 2009 movie reviews.  I think there might have been another one we saw in the theatre this year, but I can't remember.  Anyway, Blind Side gets an A, Princess and the Frog gets a B+.  Although it may deserve a bump to A- because it made us very cool parents for a couple of hours.  And that was really the whole point of going in the first place, right?

I loved Blind Side too! I think this is my favorite role that Sandra Bullock has ever played. I haven't seen Princess and the Frog yet, but I definitely want to take the girls.

I don't think I have seen one movie this year. Sad. My parents are always the fun ones who take the Riley. They saw Princess and the Frog yesterday and they also loved it!
My parents got your parent's Christmas card yesterday. It was fun to read about all you cute Davis people up there in Utah:)

I have heard nothing but good things about the Blind Side. And we are the same as you, we hardly ever go see movies, but I'm going to force Tom to take me to that one for sure. It's so nice to every once in a while have a movie out there that isn't mostly full of just trash.
