was a very lovely day. Even though Google's birthday wishes to me were lame.
I mean come on, not even a candle? Or a balloon? Seriously? I know they turned eleven, but what about the rest of us?
Luckily, there were many others who stepped up and made my birthday a very memorable day. Actually, it was kind of a birthday weekend. Will took me out on a date on Friday night while my folks watched the girls. Then on Saturday Marie watched the girls while Will and I went to the BYU football game. Sunday was our Primary program and it was sweet and darling and all the things a Primary program should be. Jacey knew all the songs and sang with gusto. And she said her part well too. After church she gave me a big hug and said "The best birthday present I could give you today was to do my best in the program."
After church I got to take a nap while Will put the girls down for naps and cleaned up the house. Then we headed up to my folks' for dinner. My grandma and grandpa were there from Idaho so that made it even more fun. They had the house all decked out with streamers and garlands and what not. After a yummy dinner my mom had this little processional planned - she put together "30 Reasons we love Cynthia" and wrote them out on little posters. Then she played music while the kids marched them through the room for everybody to read. It was so cute. Some of them made me choke up and some made me laugh out loud.
(Whenever I ask Blake "Who's the cutest boy?" he says "Blake!" and when I ask "Who's the best aunt?" he says "Sarah!" But since he doesn't have an aunt Sarah, I assume he means me.)
The last one there made me laugh out loud. The kids all "decorated" the posters. Mason really got into it apparently - he drew little things all over his to correspond with what the posters said. On the red one from Alex, Mason drew pictures of me showing off all my mad skills. On the right I'm doing a cannon ball into the pool. In the middle I'm doing karate in a black belt. And the left one was my favorite -
I'm doing a hand-stand and saying "I'm good at this."
Yep, mad skills.
Anyway, it was a cute little presentation and it made me feel good. Which is what a birthday is for, right? After that we played a game and then Will's family came over for birthday cake. It was a super fun day. And weekend, for that matter.
I'm not sure why there were 30s all over the place. Clearly somebody didn't get the memo that all birthdays hence forth and forever shall be known as anniversaries of my 29th birthday.
Thanks everybody for making it such a great day.
